C3’s own Todd Trebour presents Come and Sleep: An Operatic Fantasy for Voice, Cello, and Silence

May 5 marks the premiere of C3 collective member/operatic performance artist Todd Trebour’s experimental opera theatre piece, Come and Sleep: An Operatic Fantasy for Voice, Cello, and Silence, at A.P.E Ltd. Gallery in downtown Noho. A production of Todd’s company, Alchemical Opera Project, Come and Sleep tells the story of a fox who transforms into a man and his ensuing struggles with loneliness, the dissolution of memory, and the disappearance of magic when he is unable to revert back to his fox-self.

Created and performed by Todd, with Toronto-based collaborator Rachel Capon on cello, Come and Sleep uses music fragments of music from Schubert’s 1827 hauntingly beautiful song cycle Winterreise (Winter’s Journey). Believing in the world-changing power of community art making even in the esoteric, yet powerful medium of solo experimental opera theatre, Todd has included a cadre of other artists in the making of Come and Sleep’s Northampton premiere- c3 member and visual artist Kathy Couch will be lighting Come and Sleep, as well as creating additional set design; area artist Chelynn Tetreault will be creating three full-length wall paintings inspired by the text of Schubert’s Winterreise and Come and Sleep; and c3 member, movement-artist, and long-time collaborator Javiera Benaventa will continue to be the primary outside eyes for Come and Sleep.

Todd, Chelynn, and Kathy will be working together to augment the set of Come and Sleep to fully realize the potentials of the A.P.E. space. This World of Come and Sleep will be on view during regular gallery hours at A.P.E. May 5-7.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see this beautiful collaboration between Valley community artists!
